“SEKAI CAFE” opened their first cafe in November, 2014 in Asakusa. In June,2015, they opened their second one at Oshiage.

The menu consists from Halal mainly, also able to serve for vegans. A cafe reaching their hand to the point of “Barrier-Free” of food at the world standard level.

This time, we had a chance to interview the manager of SEKAI CAFE, Noritaka Shibayama from JSIR!

*Halal- refers to permissible or lawful in traditional Islamic law. As for the food, “permissible food and drinks”.

The Oshiage Branch is right by Skytree

You can enjoy the Soramachi shopping area on the way or the way back from visiting cafe. It is one of the best visited spots for touring. How about a little trip?

The shooting of the Oshiage branch is right by the Skytree. It is 3min. from Oshiage Station, easy to access. You can see the Skytree, front of the cafe!

The 80% of the customers at Oshiage branch is Japanese. People working at Skytree often visit for lunch use.

“There are many cafes in Oshiage, we need to be unique and have our own color. We want more foreign tourist to come, as far as Japanese customers.” said, Mr.Shibayama.

As far as the first impression, there seem to be more of female guests. They said they have many guests for lunch, there seem to be people enjoy chatting with slow time.

They also have up-stairs. Wi-Fi available, taps also. Very convenient for people busy with their work.

There are English speaking employee, no problem visiting only with foreigners.

Since it is Halal available cafe, there are space to salat, nurse for the baby and more!

There aren’t many restraints in Japan with areas for salat, but SEKAI CAFE reaches “Barrier free for Food”, they have world standard level for foreign guests.

“At the cafe, we made it visible so that guests can understand the ingredients, and how far we can adjust to the requests.

So the customers can judge if they can use our cafe or not.

Menu using animal ingredients or allergic materials are shown with pictogram (picture marks) so that people can see easily.”

There are many people in the world who have rules for food for many reasons, religions, policy, allergy and other factors.

Our hope is to enjoy the same table with people all over the world, like SEKAI CAFE, and more and more restaurants are able to accomplish “Barrier free of food”.

Recommendation for Vegan at Oshiage Branch

The characteristic of SEKAI CAFE is to provide Halal menu, vegetarian, vegan menu.

The Halal menu has food using chicken, so people who wants to enjoy meats can eat together.

Also, the ingredients are organic, preservative free as possible. But the price is very reasonable! This is a great effort.

The popular vegan menu is “Veg Bowl” (700yen tax included). Rice, with soy meat cutlet, ratatouille with salad.

There’s also “Veg kara Bowl” (750yen tax included), making deep fried chicken-ish order using soy.

Dessert menu changes often. As for sweets and dessert, they are more of vegan, please check to see at the cafe.

Asakusa Branch, international cafe with 70% Foreigner

On behalf of Oshiage branch, the Asakusa Branch consists of 70% of the guests being foreigners.

“Asakusa branch is full of foreign guests. The 40% of the guests are vegetarian, vegan, the 30% are Muslims.

On Saturdays and Sundays, Japanese tourists increase, so we have more customers.

Asakusa has a lot of foreign tourists, so the business is going very well at that point of view.”

Asakusa branch, with many foreign guests, we had a big renewal on our menu on March.

The main menu is Hamburger! Of course, Halal and vegetarian hamburgers are available.

“There aren’t many hamburger shops in Asakusa, except for the big chain stores. The foreign people tends to like hamburgers, catching their eyes.

The operation and turnouts of the cafe is easier to handle, making it available for more people to enjoy the flavor of SEKAI CAFE.”

*The photo is “Kaminarimon” burger.

There are 3 kinds of Asakusa burgers.

“Kaminarimon” is 100% made with beef, “Fujin” made with 100% from vegetables, “Raijin” is Filet-o-fish. Seems to be the iconic menu with Asakusa-ish naming!

*Please know that on the buns of “Fujin” eggs and dairy products are used. Not a complete vegan menu.

Meat, vege and fish. Varieties to choose from, meat eaters and fish eaters can both enjoy.

It is 1300yen including tax, comes with side dish and drink. (Just the burger is 1000yen)

Besides Asakusa burger, there are vegan menu “Bucket Potato (500yen tax included)”, menu for vegetarian “Veg Margherita (1000yen tax included)”, full of healthy menu.
